Duncan Gowdy was an artist in our National Treasures Exhibit that started in 2010. His beautiful Blanket Chest made from Mount Vernon wood was featured at the Gallery at Somes Sound and sold this year. This beautiful chest has a proud owner of a historic piece of functional art. Congrats, Duncan!
LaSeur Knives Joins Historical Woods
Historical Woods has formed a new collaboration with Anthony LaSeur of LaSeur Knives. Tony produces beautiful knives, carefully handmade with attention to every detail. LaSeur Knives is a small workshop in Fredericksburg, Virginia, that specializes in heirloom-quality kitchen knives, and also accepts a wide range of custom projects. The Artisnal Knife he's designed for us is a historic match for the period from which our woods were grown. Every step in the process, from forging or grinding to heat treating and sharpening is done in-house by a single artisan. We are thrilled to welcome Tony to our family of craftsmen.
Our team
Historical Woods works with many different craftspeople who each bring their unique talents to the items we sell to you. We are proud to have these members on our team.
Trevy Thomas serves as president of Historical Woods and organizer of the artists who make up the team. It has been her job to shape the business into a creative venture that honors its founder's dreams and preserves the history of the wood left in her care.
Nathan Tocus turns pens, cuts and hauls wood, is our resident photographer and technology lifesaver. We couldn't do this without him. In his spare time, he builds and flies high-powered rockets and walks the Historical Woods dogs.
We work with several artisans who handcraft items for us. Their work is featured in our shop, and you will find links to their own pages there.
